Our server perdeveloped some updays last night and also this morning we came in to discover it stuck in a boot -> "Applying System Configurations" -> "Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3. 0%" -> reboot loop.

Safe Mode does not work, it still tries to configure the updays before going to the desktop computer.

I have actually the CD and also have carried up the command also line, yet after a couple of hrs of poking around and internet searches I haven"t been able to produce any outcomes. Any concept exactly how to percreate a "cancel update"/"restore"/"repair" from the CD command also line?

Very similar problem: Windows Server 2008 is stuck at "configuring updates - stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete"

The link in one of the answers offered /some/ indevelopment, but no results. (http://assistance.microsoft.com/kb/949358/en-us)

I wasn"t sure exactly how to bump that short article, so this might must be unified.

Steps:

Boot from the Windows Server 2008 CD.Select the Command Prompt alternative.Execute the command also "del C:Windowswinsxspending.xml".Reboot from HDD.

Warning:

Notes:

The original article talks around running the command also window with elevated perobjectives and taking ownership of the pfinishing.xml file prior to you have the right to delete it. These measures were not important for me as I was able to perform a right delete on the file.

Windows might attempt to streatment you as soon as you reboot by displaying "Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3", but don"t problem, it"ll make it past it this time. (At least it did for me.)
