You cloned your problem ideal over to the new drive. There are many civilization on this website that will say don"t bvarious other trying to clean, just nuke and pave. I"m not among those human being. However before, in this situation that is precisely what I execute. Sometimes, the scanners will not pick something up, but you understand it"s tright here. With a CEO, yeah, not taking a chance. I trash that HD and take this opportunity to install an SSD drive while I"m at it.

You watching: Hard drive constantly running windows 7

Damn it, it"s early on. Just noticed you did a full install. Sorry. How much RAM are you running? You"re not utilizing roaming prorecords are you? Try that procedure traveler favor Michael sassist.

Silly as this might sound, the cause is your optical drive.

Remove any type of disc or coffee cup that may be in the drive/cup holder, close it, disable the optical drive through the tool manager in computer monitoring.

Your driver is constantly checking for a disc in order to auto begin.

I will post the real solution after confirmation of this avoiding the issue.

Sid"s entirely right on the clone - never before clone a poor drive unmuch less the intention is to retrieve information, to be inserted on a new install. I as well am not a fan of nuke and also pave, you never uncover out what went wrong, or just how to fix it.

Given this is your CEO, timing is probably vital.

Bring up your procedure monitor (task manager > performance > reresource monitor) On the disk tab - who"s the culprit?

As it functioned for a day, what is your CEO doing / installing?

Else, the optical drive, appears plausible.

BTW: the disk task light registers task of ALL disk drives, consisting of optical, outside USB HDD & DVD drives, BlueRay, and so on Your experience will not be different, unless you disable particular features in the "Player application", or driver alternatives.

Just to be clear the (second) step wregarding clone the tough drive through the same results.

The third action wregarding execute a fresh install of home windows 7 on a new hard drive.

This is amazing, "The PC ran OK for a day, however is ago to the problem". One could wonder if the conditions that enabled the user to become infected in the initially place, permitted the downloader to come back? (thinking user might be regional admin or UAC is disabled and also the vector of the first infection permitted the critter to come earlier.) The various other option is one of the softwares you reloaded after the nuke and also pave action is bring about this stselection disk task. I can inspect out Michael C"s application to check out if you deserve to recognize the culprit.

I assume that you powered off the computer as soon as you swapped the difficult drive so tright here shouldn"t be anypoint resident in memory to purge in RAM. Tbelow are some malware that have actually been well-known to hide in the bios, yet they are rare.

Since you have actually a clamong the hard drive, attempt running combosettle (from the bleeping computers internet website only) on this system. If tright here is somepoint there that looks like malware it will certainly nuke it. If the disk task retransforms to normal then take into consideration how/why the system came to be infected (I would certainly still nuke and pave as soon as you discover the source/infection vector of the concern, yes I"m among those people).

Outside of your present issue. If you have a spinning hard drive in that system, replacing that drive with a SSD will make that mechanism level out fly.
