Could not perform this operation because the default mail client

When user clicks on e-mail connect (MAILTO link) he gets "Could not percreate this operation bereason the default mail client is not properly"

when he clicks "OK" a bunch of Net Explorer windows start popping up (for those that remember, it"s prefer this prank java script that goes into infinite loop opening brand-new IE window).

You watching: Could not perform this operation because the default mail client

System Details:

Victory 7 Pro SP1 32 bit

Lotus Notes 8.5.2 FP2

Internet Explorer 10.0.9

Lotus Notes is set as default (under Set Default Programs) for eml, MAILTO and Sfinish Mail

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellAssociationsUrlAssociationsmailtoUserChoice Progid value is Notes.mailto

I"ve tried running "Fix It" as per MS KB923737 (http://assistance.microsoft.com/kb/923737) and reset IE to defaults, however it didn"t help.

Any ideas what is wrong and also exactly how to settle it?

I wouldn"t preeminence out malware at this point. I"ve viewed some that do incredibly equivalent things.

However, I have actually not watched this, however I don"t use Lotus Notes or IE 10, either.

Chris" pointer may job-related. We haven"t also gone to IE 9 bereason of all the difficulties via it. This might simply be an "undocumented feature" for IE 10.

We use outlook. We gain a similar error when our users install then unistall chrome. However before, its for all web links. Not just mailto...

We run this regedit and also it seems to reverse whatever before chrome does

Manually modify the following regisattempt secrets to remove Chrome andallude it toidiscover.exe:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOThttpshellopencommandHKEY_CLASSES_ROOThttpsshellopencommand

HKCUSoftwareClasseshttpshellopencommandHKCUSoftwareClasseshttpsshellopencommand

Hi All,

thanks for advice, but unfortunaely chaging regitry does not resolve my trouble. Issue I have is through mailto links only; HTTP links work simply fine. And issue through mailto links is accross the board, not lotu notes alone. i.e. if I cattach on mailto connect on e-mial - I gain the issue, If I click a mailto link on a webwebsite - I gain the concern, If I cink a mailto connect on Excel document - I obtain the problem... well, you acquire the picture.

Maybe this will certainly work:

Start Menu -> Default Programs -> Associate a file kind or protocol via a program

Find MAILTO protocol. Select it and click the "Change regime..." button, then asauthorize a regimen.

You should include the registry key below to solve this issue, I had this issue with 400 users!

"URL Protocol"=""

copy paste into text file and also rename the file to "somepoint.reg" and also run that file to include the reg key.
