A copy of firefox is already open. only one copy of firefox can be open at a time.

I have actually multiple customers on my MacBook (OS X 10.9.5). One of them has parential constraints, but is permitted to usage Firefox. Now, despite that, she is unable to run Firefox: whenever she tries, an error box pops up with the message

Cshed Firefox A copy of Firefox is already open up. Only one copy of Firefox have the right to be open up at a time.

You watching: A copy of firefox is already open. only one copy of firefox can be open at a time.

(needless to say that Firefox was not open up, neither by her nor by any other user, and that none of the various other individuals has actually that problem).

It shows up this occured after a current upday of Firefox (to variation 39.0).

What might be the cause of this? How can I kind this out?

Here is what I did to solve the issue:

In OS X Terminal, discover your presently provided Firefox profile catalog (something like):$ cd ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/$ ls -l

if you have multiple profiles, list the one through the most recent date$ cd rAnd0m.default$ ls -la

remove the covert parentlock file$ rm -v .parentlock

attempt to start Firefox again

(If the difficulty was not related to the parentlock file, you will see:rm: .parentlock: No such file or directory)

If you prefer to usage the Finder, simply make covert dot-documents visible first, so you can check for the existence of .parentlock and delete it.

When I got this message I only had to kill the stray procedure, no lock was associated for me.

% ps -wwax | grep -i firefo81106 ?? 711:45.58 /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -foreground28986 ttys000 0:00.00 grep -i firefo% kill 81106Regardless of the procedure still being "secretly" alive, tbelow was no Firefox visibile in the cmd-tab job switcher, nor under the cmd-opt-esc Force Quit dialog. Firefox remained in this state after a crash/restart.

emma24xia"s answer is for Windows and not applicable on a Mac. On a Mac you would certainly perform it this means.

Open up Applications/Utilities and launch Activity Monitor.

Look for Firefox in that list. Select it and click the stop-authorize symbol to force quit that process.

The only solution I can discover so much wregarding open an unconserved file in some sort of editor and execute a "Log Out ".

If you are lucky, the stuck procedure will certainly disshow up from the dock prior to editor comlevels about unsaved file so you have the right to click "Cancel", and most of your workroom will stay there.
